Streaming videos from the Alexander Street Press or Kanopy platforms can be embedded into a Canvas course for easier access. 

Alexander Street Press Instructions

  1. Search for an ASP film by going to http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/indexes/redirect/905.
  2. Click through the site to the video that you would like to embed (for example, http://search.alexanderstreet.com/view/work/1780144).
  3. Below the video player, click on the "Embed/Link" option.
  4. A box will open that contains a permalink. The code will look something like this:
    1. http://proxy.lib.miamioh.edu/login?url=http://search.alexanderstreet.com/view/work/1780144
  5. Highlight that URL and copy it.
  6. In Canvas, open the course that you wish to embed the video in.
  7. Add the copied URL from Alexander Street Press to the course page or module of your choice.

Kanopy Instructions

  1. Search for a Kanopy film by going to http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/indexes/redirect/1276 and entering a search term in te box.
  2. Select a film by clicking on the title.
  3. Just below the film player, click the "Share" box.
  4. Copy the URL from the "Share Link" box into a text editor like Notepad. 
    1. The URL will look like: https://miamioh.kanopystreaming.com/video/charles-drew-revolutionized-medical-science
  5. Paste the following text string in front of the URL you copied from Kanopy:
    1. http://proxy.lib.miamioh.edu/login?url=
  6. Make sure there are no spaces between the "=" and the start of the Kanopy URL "https".
    1. http://proxy.lib.miamioh.edu/login?url=https://miamioh.kanopystreaming.com/video/charles-drew-revolutionized-medical-science
  7. Highlight that entire URL and copy it.
  8. In Canvas, open the course that you wish to embed the video in.
  9. Add the copied URL from Kanopy to the course page or module of your choice.
