How is ANOVA related to other statistical methods?

Answer

If the factor variable  in a one-way ANOVA only has two levels, then it is the same as an independent samples t-test . However, unlike a t-test, an ANOVA can be used when the factor has more than two levels. A one-way ANOVA is also the same as a regression model with one predictor that is a factor variable. The only difference is how the results are presented. For example, if the factor in a one-way ANOVA had multiple levels and was a significant, you would need to perform multiple comparisons to determine which levels were significant. Regression does not require follow-up analyses involving multiple comparisons.
